Under armouR Curry 2 ‘Gold Rings’
Release Date: June 4, 2016
Many media outlets initially interpreted the Curry 2 ‘Gold Rings’ as a bold statement by Under Armour, designed to commemorate Stephen Curry's anticipated second NBA Championship ring. The nickname suggested that the Golden State Warriors were poised to secure back-to-back championships during the 2016 NBA season—a prediction that ultimately did not come to fruition. However, Under Armour later clarified that the shoes were actually a tribute to the Warriors’ first Championship ring in 40 years.
The design of the Curry 2 ‘Gold Rings’ incorporates the Golden State Warriors' team colors, with a predominantly white upper and blue accents throughout the branding, liner, and midsole. Gold highlights are added for an elegant touch, and each shoe features a patch on the inside of the tongue reading “2015 World Champion,” further emphasizing the tribute to the Warriors’ historic 2015 championship victory.
Stephen Curry debuted the Curry 2 ‘Gold Rings’ on June 5, 2016, Game 2 in the 2016 NBA Finals - scoring 18 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and making 4 three-pointers.
